BRC (British Retail Consortium) Global Standard

What is BRC Standard

The standards of the BRC Global Standards series are issued by the British Retail Consortium and are fundamental standards, globally recognized, that define the requirements of safety and quality management systems: (a) of food during production (BRC Global Standard for Food Safety), (b) goods during storage and transport (BRC Global Standard for Storage and Distribution) and (c) packaging and packaging materials (intended for food) during production (BRC Global Standard for Packaging and Packaging Material).

Target Audience

The BRC Global Standard for Food Safety is addressed to companies in the food chain that are active in the production, processing and/or standardization of food or ingredients used in the production of food, other than primary production, and is still a useful resource for companies that export their products or supply large chains of retailers (super markets) of Great Britain.

The BRC Standard for Food was the first to be recognized by the GFSI (Global Food Safety Institute) organization and is based on the principles of HACCP, giving a special basis to Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and Good Hygienic Practice (GHP).
